The world is wondrous, and exactly what a person like me would love. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern Publisher: Doubleday Books Genre: Fantasy Morgenstern has created a tale out of tales, a fable out of the human need to seek and explain, to dream and understand. You have to fill in some blanks and makes some assumptions, which in this case, for me, made the book feel more 'my own personal experience'. I've seen people who are confused, however, and to that all I have to say is: use your imagination. well I'm not sure there was one, exactly, and that is something a lot of people have been frustrated with. Their drama didn't take away from the wonder at the world.
The characters weren't amazing, simply people, no more or less, and in this book I didn't mind. walking through this story, to put it somewhat poetically. It's a love letter to stories and fairytales, a book about books, and I've realised that that really is something I enjoy. It was a /journey/ and I loved the atmosphere. A series of unusual events leads Rawlins to a secret repository of books and fairy tales, a place that contains worlds within time and. I've seen different opinions on this one, and I understand why die-hard fantasy readers will have issues with it, but damn did I love reading this book. The Starless Sea is a love letter to books and readers, a masterpiece of stories within a story where fables of pirates and princesses converge with the saga of Zachary Ezra Rawlins, the son of a fortune teller.
